Allergy Awareness

Dear Parents/Guardians,

There are a number of children enrolled at Governor Winslow School who are severely allergic to peanuts/nuts and other food products.  Strict avoidance of these products is the only way to prevent an allergic reaction.  Some allergies can be life threatening.

In an effort to allow all students to participate fully in classroom activities, please refer to the district “Birthday and Other Celebrations” letter for guidance.  Remember, classroom parties do not need to involve food, just fun!

It is important that you check with your child’s teacher before sending any special treat for the class.  The classroom teacher will make you aware of any specific allergy concerns.  Some classrooms are designated as “peanut/nut aware zones” due to the allergy and may request hand washing before entering the classroom.

The school nurse teaches an allergy awareness lesson in all classrooms with students who have peanut and/or tree nut allergies and reviews the Marshfield Transportation Policy which prohibits the eating of food on the school bus.

As always, Governor Winslow School staff provides a safe and secure environment for children.  Thank you for your consideration regarding this important matter, and if you have any questions or concerns please call the school nurse at 781-834-5060.

Sincerely,

Karen M. Hubbard, Principal
